In the wake of the 4G transition and the need to verify SIM card ownership, Airtel Uganda called upon all its subscribers to update their information to match the details of their National ID. Those that did not have National IDs at the time, resorted to buying registered SIM cards or using a SIM card in a relative’s name. What happens then if you would like to change Airtel SIM ownership to your own name? Whether you want to change your name due to a legal name change or just for personal preference, it is essential to keep your SIM card information up-to-date to avoid disruptions in services. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to change the name on your Airtel SIM.
Step 1: Visit the Airtel store
Both the old owner and new owner should visit the nearest Airtel store in their area with a valid original copy of their National ID or passport to verify and establish ownership.
Step 2: Fill out the application form
Once you are at the Airtel center, match to the customer care desk then ask for the KYC form. The Airtel representative will give you two application forms to fill out. In the first form, you will need to enter all the details of the sim card including the owner’s name, phone number attached to the sim, last airtime recharge, mobile money balance and commonly dialed numbers. For the Transfer form, the new owner will have to fill in all their bio-data details, and National ID number.
Step 3: Submit the application form
After filling out both forms, please submit them to the Airtel representative along with the identity proof document of both the old and new Sim owners. The representative will verify the details and process the request. The details of the new owner including thumbprint and selfie will be taken on the spot. Once the sim ownership has been transferred, you will receive a confirmation message on the associated mobile number within 24 hours.
Wrap-Up: Changing the name on your Airtel SIM is a simple process that can be completed in just a few steps. It is important to keep your SIM card information up-to-date to avoid disruptions in services. Make sure to carry a valid identity proof document with your current name mentioned on it to the Airtel store. After submitting the application, wait for the confirmation message, and once your request is processed, the name on your Airtel SIM will be updated to your new name.
