If you are looking forward to customizing your Netflix profile, then you should consider changing the appearance of your Netflix subtitles as well. Subtitles are captions displayed at the bottom of a television screen that translates or transcribes the dialogue or narrative in a movie. By default, the subtitles will appear in white using the Block font. All that can change with a single tap. Netflix lets you change the visual elements of the subtitles like the font, font size, and background color.

The Netflix Subtitle Apperance settings can only be altered via the Netflix web browser. However, for Netflix subscribers who watch Netflix on Apple products like Apple TV and iPhone, subtitle appearance can be made through the device’s accessibility settings (not the Netflix app). Also, subscribers who are from a country with one of these primary languages (Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, Korean, Romanian, Traditional Chinese, and Thai) can’t change subtitle appearance even if your profile is set to a different language. Here is how you can change the appearance of your Netflix subtitles.

1. Go to the Netflix website.

2. Select your profile then click on the drop-down arrow next to your profile picture icon in the top right corner of the screen.

3. From the displayed menu, select “Account.”

4. Now scroll down to “Profile & Parental Controls” and tap on your profile.

5. Tap on “Subtitle Appearance.”

6. Hereafter you will be referred to the Subtitle Appearance page where you can alter the way subtitles appear for that profile on all supported devices. Now you can go ahead and change the font style, text size, add shadow to the text, and add background color to the subtitle window or subtitle background. As you make these changes, the new formats will be displayed in the preview pane to show you how the settings will appear while you are watching your favorite show.

7. If you are appeased by the changes made, tap the Save button to save them. Once complete, you must restart Netflix on whatever device you’re using. On a smart TV, go to Settings > Get Help > Reload within the Netflix app. However, if you do not like the changes, tap “Reset to Default.” You can also just tap the Cancel button if you wish so.
