Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is a government agency in Uganda that is responsible for business registration, intellectual property registration, civil registration, and handling insolvency matters. The URSB’s mandate under cap 210 Laws of Uganda allows the institution to register all marriages, license churches to celebrate marriages, solemnize civil marriages, and issuance of single status letters. To prove authenticity or full fil requirements about your marital status, request a gazette special license for the celebration of marriage, or even request a license of waiver of waiting days, you will have to get a certified document from URSB.

Here is how you can get your documents certified with URSB;

Step 1: Generate PRN & Make Payment

First, you need to generate a payment assessment through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) portal and make payments using any method of your choice i.e. through the bank, mobile money, visa, etc. Here is how you can get a PRN from URA.

1. Go to the URA portal.

2. Navigate to eServices then click on More.

3. You will be referred to a new page. Now under Payments, select Payment Registration.

4. Select Payment type as DT and Tax Head as Other NTR.

5. Go ahead and enter your taxpayer details which include; TIN, name, email address, phone number, and area of residence.

6. Under Details of NTR section, select Ministry/Department/Agency as Uganda Registration Services Bureau, select Department as Civil Registration, and choose the registration category that you prefer (Church, Hindu, and Islamic Marriages, Customary marriages, Marriage Under Marriage Act, or Single Status Letter).

7. Enter your Reference Number and the amount that you are willing to pay.

Quick Note: Upon selecting category and subcategory, you will see the Fees calculation section that displays the amount you ought to pay for each form.

8. Now select the identification type and enter the ID number.

9. Choose a payment method.

10. Then Click on Accept and register.

Step 2: Fill in the Request for Certification Form

Upon making payment, you now need to fill in a form requesting certification of your particular document. Here is how you can go about that;

1. Go to the URSB web portal.

2. Select the eServices option from the top bar menu.

3. Choose civil registration and then select Certify Civil documents.

4. On the next page, you will be referred to the Request For Certification form.

5. Enter all the required information, like name, email address, purpose of certification, branch that you prefer to handle your certification, select documents that you want to certify, and attach the applicant’s identification card. Remember to also input your payment details like Payment Reference Number (PRN) Search and Payment Reference Number (PRN) Certification.

6. Upon filling in the required information, especially those with the red asterisk click on the Submit button.

Congratulations, you have successfully submitted your certification request. Hereafter an email will be sent to the email address that you registered with earlier detailing a ticket number that you can use for following up on the request. You will also be notified once the document is certified.
