Fortunately, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) offers an online car tax calculator that can help you estimate the taxes you may have to pay on a specific vehicle. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps of using the URA car tax calculator so that you can make informed decisions when buying a used or brand-new car in Uganda. Whether you are a first-time car buyer or an experienced driver, this guide will equip you with the knowledge you need to navigate the car tax system in Uganda.

Calculate Car Taxes Using URA’s Tax Calculator

1. Navigate to the Uganda Revenue Authority tax calculator web portal. Once you have accessed the portal, you will be able to use the online tax calculator to estimate your car tax based on the car type and other relevant factors.

2. On the motor vehicle calculator page, you will see a form that requires you to enter various pieces of information about the vehicle you are interested in. This information includes the type of vehicle (such as sedan/salon, Trailer, tri-cycle, goods vehicle, motor vehicle, engineering plant, station wagon, ambulance, or truck), the applicable currency (such as UGX or USD), the CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) value of the vehicle, its seating capacity, gross weight in kilograms, engine capacity (measured in cubic centimeters or cc), and the year of manufacture. It is important that you fill in all the required fields, which are marked with red asterisks, accurately and completely. This will ensure that the car tax calculation is as precise and reliable as possible.

3. Once you have entered all the required information correctly, you should click on the “Calculate” button. This will trigger the car tax calculator to process the data you have provided and generate an estimate of the taxes you may have to pay on the vehicle. The estimate will be displayed on the screen in a matter of seconds, allowing you to get a sense of the financial implications of your purchase decision.

Quick Note: It is worth noting, however, that the car tax calculator is designed to provide indicative values only. The actual tax amount you may have to pay on the vehicle could vary at the time of import. The car’s import year should be 2009 or later (Less than 15 years old).
