The Higher Education Loans Board(HELB) offers a variety of loan products including Undergraduate loans, Technical and vocational education and training(TVET) loans, and Jielimishe loans. This loan facility is designed for students only pursuing bachelor’s degrees in public or chartered private universities within the East African Community, placed either through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), self-sponsored, parallel, and module II students. It attracts an interest of 4% and Kshs 1000 ledges per year.

Requirements for HELB Loan Application
These are the requirements that you need in order successfully complete your HELB loan application;
- A copy of the Applicant’s National ID card.
- Copies of the parent’s National ID Card/death certificates where the parents are deceased.
- Copies of both guarantors’ National Id cards.
- A copy of the Applicants admission letter and KCSE result slip/certificate.
- A copy of the applications Bank ATM.
- Applicant’s Smart card copy from the institution.
- One recent colored passport-size photograph of the applicant.

How to Apply for HELB Loan
Step 1: First things first, you need to create an account with the HELB portal. Visit the official HELB portal to access the student portal and click “Create an Account” to register and follow the prompts. Once the account is created, or If you already have an account go ahead and log in by entering your email address and password then click on Login.
Step 2: Once you are successfully logged into the HELB portal, select the appropriate ‘First Time Undergraduate Loan Application.
Step 3: Fill out your loan application form accurately, such as personal details, education, university, family expenses, guarantees, and bank details. After completing your form accurately go to the homepage to confirm whether you have filled your document correctly, click the icon indicated ‘Print form’ to print two copies of your HELB form.
Step 4: Ensure all the parts required to be signed have been signed and stamped by relevant authorities. Attach all the documents per the checklist and present one copy of the duly filled loan Application form at any Huduma Center nearest to you or at the HELB Student Service Center on Mezzanine 1, Anniversary Tower University Way, Nairobi.
It is mandatory that you retain one complete copy of the Loan Application Form.
