List Of 100 Startups Shortlisted For Government Innovation Fund 2019

The government of Uganda through its Ministry of ICT and National Guidance has released a list of 100 startups selected to pitch to the Committee assisted by representatives from the respective government ministries where the innovation is relevant.

Last year, a call was published in the media requesting for ICT Innovation proposals to develop systems and applications that’ll improve service delivery. This call ran till the 24th of January 2019.

A total of 665 applications were submitted and evaluated by the Committee of experts which was appointed by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon. Frank Tumwebaze and only 100 where found interesting.

The activity of pitching starts from 16th-18th April, 2019. The list of the 100 shortlisted applications is attached below.

According to government, the applicants that will not be directly supported will be availed working spaces at the various ICT Innovation hubs.

Some of the note-able innovations shortlisted for 2019 National ICT Initiative Support program include Yunga Application (security) , Xente Application (cashless payment), Jaguza Livestock (Agriculture), Akello banker, Yo-Waste app (Waste management), Cinnamon among others.

About the National ICT Initiatives Support Program (NIISP)

The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance implements the National ICT Initiatives Support Program (NIISP) whose main objective is to develop the ICT Innovation Ecosystem. One of the components of this program is to offer support to local ICT Innovators.

In 2018, a total of 12 startups were financially supported by the government under its multi-billion scheme. It is not clear how many startups will be supported in this years shortlist.

The Ministry of ICT usually avails working space to the various startups that have not directly been supported at its many ICT innovation hubs.
