We’ve all heard about it, or probably experienced it and it’s quite frustrating especially when you had a business account. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, or WhatsApp; social media hacking is a pain in the arm or whatever you expected.

#1. Use an incognito browser when you use public computers

Many times, we think that hacking is a very complicated process probably involving remote control of one’s property, but most hackers simply use the information you leave around public computers. To prevent this, switch to an incognito browser which won’t let the browser to keep your passwords on the public computer.

#2. Don’t save your password in public computers

To avoid access to your account by third parties, avoid accepting to save its information on public devices.

#3. Set typically difficult passwords

A simple way to set difficult passwords is by using passwords automatically suggested by Google. This makes it hard for other people to guess them. Now since you may not remember these difficult characters, I recommend that you save them in a safe password manager online like LastPass or Google Password Manager.

#4. Be careful where you type your password

Some hackers will create websites that resemble the ones you log in to for instance “gmaiil.com” instead of “gmail.com”. While hurrying, you could type your password and it’ll land in the wrong hands. These are called phishing sites which use social engineering techniques to make you think they are the official site. Keep on the lookout!

#5. Donot provide your password to anyone

No social media app will ever ask you for your password via your email in exchange for any help.

#6. Create emergency backups or recovery measures

These can help you access your original account in case someone accesses it and changes the password.

This can include a phone number or email where you get informed about any random changes to your social media account.

#8. Stay away from insecure and illegal sites

Avoid connecting your account to illegal sites including certain gambling and porn sites which could be run by malicious people intending to access your account information.

#9. Avoid using your accounts in public places

For instance, Whatsapp might support web browsing and protect by end-to-end encryption, but you might forget to log out on a public computer and someone might use the backend information to access your other information.

#10. Use two-step verification

Look for this option in the security settings of every social media app and site. Two-step verification will require verification from you personally for every single login before one accesses your account. This method is 100% effective as long as you follow the above-mentioned tricks.
