Meta has recently introduced its latest social media platform called Threads, which has sparked interest among users who are curious about this text-based alternative to Instagram. In order to ensure the privacy of your account, here are the steps to follow.
During the initial setup of your Threads account, you have the option to customize your privacy settings. By default, your Threads account is situated in private mode. What Happens When You Make Threads Account Private?
- Only your followers on Thread app can see your Thread profile and profile information.
- All posts will only be available to followers.
- No one can share links to your Threads or even post your Threads to their Instagram story.
- Only followers can repost and quote your posts.

How to Make Your Threads account private
1. Locate the Threads app icon on your home screen or app drawer and tap on it to launch the app.
2. Once the Threads app is open, navigate to the bottom right corner of the screen, where you will find a small profile icon. It is typically represented by a person’s silhouette or an image that resembles a head and shoulders. Tap on this profile icon.
3. After tapping the profile icon, you will be directed to the Profile page. Now tap on this Edit Profile button to proceed.
4. Upon tapping the edit button, an edit profile menu should appear. Within this menu, locate and identify the “Private Profile” button. It is typically represented by a switch or toggle button. Toggle the button to the “On” position to activate the private profile feature. Now your threads account is private. At one point, if you want to make your Threads account public, follow the above steps then toggle off the Private Profile button.
5. Tap Done in the upper right corner to save your new privacy settings.
