How to Set Sleep Timer/ Idle TV Standby on your Android TV

The idle TV standby function which is also known as the Sleep Timer function automatically powers off your TV after a certain length of time. This function will activate when there’s no remote control or TV operations, even if you’re watching a TV program or playing videos. As much as the function has undeniable merit of forcing the TV to rest according to the sleep timer, it also inconveniences the user when they are streaming their favorite movie or playing games. The sleep timer option can be adjusted to 30 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, and 12 hours plus you can also choose to turn off the sleep timer function. The step-by-step guide below will help you set a sleep timer or Idle TV Standby on your Android TV.

1. Press the home button on your supplied remote for the home menu to load.

2. Navigate to your device’s Setting app.

3. Under general settings, click on “Device Preferences.”

4. On the Device Preference, scroll down to and click on “Screen Saver.”

5. Under the Screen saver menu, scroll down to and click on “Put Device to Sleep.”

6. On the next page, you will be presented with a list of sleep timer options;

For instance, if you select;

  • 30 minutes the Tv will go to idle Stand by after 30 minutes.
  • 1 hour the Tv will go to idle Stand by after 1 hour.
  • 3 hours the Tv will go to idle Stand by after 3 hours.
  • 6 hours the Tv will go to idle Stand by after 6 hours.
  • 12 hours the Tv will go to idle Stand by after 12 hours.
  • Never> Tv will never go idle Stand by mode.

If you set the sleep timer on your Android TV at 30 minutes, the timer will quick off starting from the time the TV will be switched on until 30 minutes elapse. If at all you power off your TV before time elapses, then you will not be able to experience the usefulness of this functionality.

Quick Note: Unlike the digital TVs that display a warning before they power off, your Android TV will just blackout without any notice. Therefore, be careful about the sleep timer that you select. If the TV is powered off and you want to power it back on, press the power button on your supplied remote.
