5 Things you should know about the Ugandan Airlines Bombardier CRJ900 Aircraft

Yesterday the world witnessed the arrival of the Uganda national carrier, the Bombardier CRJ900 Aircraft at Entebbe airport. In East Africa, Uganda is the third country to own an airline after Kenya (Kenya Airways) and Rwanda (Rwanda airs).

Two Bombardier aircraft arrived in Uganda and we expect the other two to arrive between the period of July and September according to sources from the government.

So in this post, we are going to look at 5 things you should probably know about the revived Uganda airlines Aircraft.

Seats

The CRJ-900 has got a seating capacity of 76. The main cabin has 44 seats measuring 44cm/76cm (Width/Pitch), The Delta Comfort has 20 seats measuring 44cm/86cm, the First Class has 12 seats measuring 50cm/94cm.

The Uganda airline will be the first carrier in Africa to operate the new CRJ-series atmosphere cabin. Atmosphere cabin design allows passengers to carry and store an “oversized” roller bag within the aircraft cabin bins, which minimizes the need to check bags at the counter or the gate.

Cost of CRJ-900

According to Wikipedia, In 2018, the CRJ-900 list price was $48 million (approx. 179 billion), it’s market value was $24M, most customers are paying $20–22M and the American Airlines order for 15 was at below $20M. A 2012 aircraft was worth less than $14M and it was to fall by 30% in 2021.

The Ugandan government paid Shillings 280 billion for the first two planes through a supplementary budget approval by Parliament making the cost of each plane 140 billion Uganda shillings.

The plane has got 2 galleries (compartment of the aircraft where food is cooked and prepared), 6 Exits, and 2 lavatories (a small room on an aircraft with a toilet and sink).

Uganda Airlines Destination

The Uganda airlines will be flying to neighbor countries like Kinshasha, Lusaka, Bujumbura, Khartoum and later plan to expand to far destinations like Accra and Johannesburg.

Manufacturers of Uganda Airlines

The Ugandan national carrier the Bombardier CRJ-900 was manufactured by Bombardier Aerospace in Quebec, Canada which is a manufacturer of planes and trains. The plane was tested in Canada before moving to Uganda.
