If you do not have the mobile pin, you will be unable to withdraw the money. However, if you are the next of kin, you can process the money. This article details how you can retrieve money from a deceased persons’ mobile money account in Uganda.

What happens to the Deceased Mobile Money?
The line will be deactivated If a person spends three months consisting of about 90 days without using their sim card. Despite the disconnection, the mobile money balance stays intact and the number can not be re-issued.
After a period of about 180 days, the money is then transferred from one’s account and put in an internal dormant suspense account. Once the money is in this state, internal clearance has to be done before the money is issued to a particular family member.
Requirements to retrieve Money from Deceased Person’s Mobile Money
The claimant should visit any of the authorized service centers and provide certain documents for inspection and approval before any funds can be released.
1. Administration letter signed by the Administrator-General.
2. Fully certified death certificate from NIRA.
3. Identification proof that you are the next of kin or benefactor or new estates’ manager of the deceased as per letters of administration.
4. Claimant’s valid National ID or passport to verify identity.
5. Statutory Declaration (Affidavit).
6. Grant of Probate: This is a legal document issued by the court to an executor of the estate of a deceased person who left a will providing for what should happen to his estate and further appointing a personal representative (executor). The appointed person will go to court with the will and supporting documents and obtain a Grant of Probate.
How to Retrieve Money from Deceased Persons Mobile Money Account in Uganda
1. Visit any authorized telecom shop near you. Click here.
2. Present all the required documents at any service center. The agents at the authorized shop will send the documents to the telecom headquarters.
3. Once all the requisite documents have been provided and proved to be in order, funds will be transferred into the beneficiary’s mobile account. Hereafter they can choose to withdraw it from their accounts.
