Note that if you have not crammed the account number on you Yaka card, it is better for you to have it near you when you start to perform the transaction.

This is how to load your Yaka Token using Mobile money;


Dial *165# on your cell phone (which is the official Mobile Money code for MTN)
1. Select option 4 (Payments)
2. Select option 1 (Umeme Touch Pay)
3. Select option 2 (for Yaka Payment)
4. Enter your account number (which is on your green and black Yaka card)
5. Enter the amount you are paying
6. Enter your Mobile Money pin code

You will receive a verification SMS, which is a confirmation of your payment.

The SMS will show your account number and the amount you have paid.

This SMS will be followed by another SMS with your token ID that has been generated from UMEME’s system. The token ID comprises a 20-digit number that your meter at home will only accept.

Quickly enter the token ID into your Yaka Customer Interface Unit (CIU) to load the Yaka units.

Then your television set will be up and running again. Your household members won’t be in a position to hold their smiles back. Oh! You’ll be their new hero.

In case of any problems in loading your Yaka credit, please check with the error codes or call the helpline, which is 0800 185 185, to access immediate help.


These are some of the Error codes that will be displayed when you have a loading error code. You ought to pay attention to these errors in case your token is not accepted, such that you can identify the problem yourself and quickly rectify it if you can;


1. The token has already been used and cannot be used again.
2. Token has been entered incorrectly or it is not valid. Re-enter token and if the problem persists, call UMEME on 0800 185 186 for assistance.
3. The token has expired It is recommended that you use your tokens within 3 months from the date of purchase.
4. The token value is too large and cannot be displayed. The token has been accepted by the meter but cannot be processed. Please call UMEME on 0800 185 186 for help.
5. The meter has been coded to default code and cannot accept credit tokens.
6. The available credit in your meter is too high to accept more credit. Re-enter the token when the credit level drops.
