In Nigeria, having a NIN number will soon be required before you can access different services from the government and other service providers such as banks and telecom firms. As a result, having your unique number puts you in a better position to make use of such facilities.

If you have registered for the national ID card program and have forgotten your National Identity Number (NIN), you can now look it up on your phone. You can now verify or recover your National Identity Number (NIN) on your mobile phone via the National Identity Management Commission’s (NIMC) USSD service.

Use the easy procedures below to retrieve your NIN number.

  • Dial *346# from any phone on any network.
  • To choose the NIN Retrieval Option, enter ‘1’. (if the phone number you are dialing from was used during your NIN registration).
  • Enter ‘2’ to select the NIN Search option. (If you have misplaced your number, you will be requested to provide some of your registration information.)
  • Congratulations on your successful recovery.

If you have tried unsuccessfully to retrieve your NIN on your phone using the same number that you used to register, you can visit any NIMC office to confirm if your registration was successful.
